Transformation and valorization

The Moroccan seafood processing industry has forged a worldwide reputation that places Morocco among the major exporters of seafood products. It is due to a high quality and a diversified source material, to an experience of over 80 years, to an experienced workforce and to the latest production techniques that meet the most demanding standards in Europe regarding quality and safety matters.

The fishing products valorization industry is holding an important position in the Moroccan economy with its 414 onshore valorization units throughout the entire national coast. It includes the activities of fresh fish packing, freezing, canning, semi-preserving, fish flour, fish oil and seaweed processing.

Other than this, a fish freezing fleet freezes the seafood products inside the ships. There are 245 shrimps and cephalopod freezing ships.

All these units are approved by the Department of Maritime Fisheries (Maritime Fishing Industries management) and they all integrate the HACCP system into their manufacturing processes. Some units go even beyond the regulatory requirements and align themselves with other international standards such as PGQ, IFS, BRC, ISO, FOS, ... etc in order to meet the requirements of their customers.
