The artisanal fleet
The artisanal fishing fleet is composed of small boats made of wood that are 5 to 6m long, equipped for most of outboard motors having a lower tonnage than 2 tons. In 2012, the total of the active artisanal fleet was 14688.
The coastal fleet
The coastal fishing fleet is composed of units with a tonnage lower than 150 TJB and an average overall length of 16 to 22 meters. In 2012, the total of active coastal fishing fleet was 1,776 units including 630 trawlers, 657 sardine boats, 480 long liners and 9 coral fishers.
The deep-sea fleet
The deep-sea fleet is made up of ships that are over 24 meters in length and over 150 TJB.
In 2012, the total of active deep-sea fleet was 261 units including freezer ships, refrigerated long liners and RSW seiners.
