The best for mums

Pregnant women know it: the fish has good things to offer, it offers a nutritional wealth. It is a privileged source of essential fatty acids : the omega 3, it plays an important role for the mum’s morale (several studies have shown that a deficiency of omega 3 in pregnant women could cause the baby-blues, the much dreaded depression that occurs after childbirth).

It is also very rich in iodine and protein particularly suitable for pregnancy, the seafood products are the allies of a healthy diet.

The best for the future baby

The famous Omega 3 contribute to the healthy development of the nervous system of the future baby. The DHA : docosahexaenoic acid is necessary for the proper development of the brain especially in the fetus during pregnancy; Similarly, according to many studies, the consumption of DHA during pregnancy would be good for the cognitive and physical development of the child. This would increase the intellectual and motor development of the baby as well as his visual acuity

FEED YOUR CHILD THE BEST FOOD

Fish has many nutritional benefits for children. It must be introduced very gradually in their diet. It is rich in Omega 3 which plays an important role in regard to brain and eyesight. The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish (DHA) are the elemental materials of the brain.

Fish provides children with many valuable nutrients, such as high quality protein, iron, selenium, iodine, fluorine and vitamin D.

Give them fish without worrying

The World Health Organization recommends eating at least two meals of fish each week. By following these recommendations, your children will benefit from all the virtues and benefits of fish.

Pick carefully the fish that you will serve them.

You must avoid for the young children large carinivorous (swordfish ...) that can accumulate some contaminants that must be avoided by growing children such as mercury in varying amounts. To minimize the risks of mercury while enjoying the benefits of fish, you need to carefully pick the fish and seafood that you will serve to your children.

Avoid eating the skin and fat that are on the belly of the fish, it is where some of the contaminants concentrate.

MAKE YOUR CHILDREN SAY « FISH IS TASTY! », KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEM APPRECIATE IT

Instinctively, the child wants to try, love, learn and succeed.

Often, fish is negatively perceived by children, but it is possible to change dietary preferences and develop children's taste for fish.

For some, they will like it the first time you will serve it to them, while others will need to taste it several times before they can appreciate it. It is therefore important to serve fish multiple times, even when rejected at the first time. However, under no circumstances should we force the child to eat a certain meal or not; we can suggest him to taste but we should never force him.

In addition, a child will be much more likely to taste fish if a significant person, such as a friend, sibling or parent eats and enjoys it.

Finally, in order to learn to appreciate fish, it must be offered by correctly identifying it. The child must be able to associate a taste with a type of fish: sardine is different than a sole or a hake.

Ex : Tonight, we wll have Sardine for dinner... and not «fish»

AN ALLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE

Even if fish offers an incomparable nutritional wealth, it may contain, like any other food, certain flaws, certain risks in particular for consumers suffering from specific pathologies.

Of course fish must always be fresh: very transparent and shiny eyes, shiny scales and they must be in good condition, fresh smell ... all the characteristics that a fish must have if it has been properly fished, kept cool and was properly frozen. Please note that once the fish is no more fresh, it has a very strong and unpleasant smell.

Some people are allergic to fish: they react abnormally to its proteins. Thus, it is highly recommended that people with allergies consult an allergist before introducing new seafood products to their diet.

Fish offers an incomparable nutritional wealth. But some fish or crustaceans may contain mercury and represent a danger especially for the fetus during pregnancy. When ingested in large quantities, this metal can affect the nervous system. According to several organizations of experts in nutrition, including the French Food Safety Agency, pregnant women must diversify their diet in order to protect their baby from exposure to mercury.

Some fish, such as sardines, are among the richest in purines : substances that can produce uric acid. That is why people that are suffering from the gout should avoid their consumption in order to prevent attacks. People that are  suffering from this pathology have abnormally high uric acid in their blood which causes the appearance of specific symptoms, such as joint pain. The purines contained in some fish contribute to further increase the concentration of uric acid in the blood, which is why people that have the gout must avoid their consumption.
