The octopus fishery management plan aims to preserve this resource through management measures for the rebuilding of the octopus stock, the consolidation of investments in this fishery at a level ensuring the profitability and sustainability of the stakeholders, and the maximizing the socio-economic benefits generated by this fishery.

In 2001: the implementation of the first octopus fishery management plan , introducing a new management method through the application of the catch cap system as a complementary measure to the measures applied in the management of fishing effort and the preservation of the sensitive stages of the species.

In 2004: Revision of the management plan by incorporating new management measures.
The organization of the fishing in two campaigns, a one "Winter" and a "Summer" and two periods of stopping fishing (Spring and Autumn);
The setting of the global exploitable quota fixed for each fishing year and its distribution between the three segments targeting this resource (Artisanal, Coastal and Offshore Fishing) in accordance with the allocation key set in the 2004 management plan.
The management measures, the campaign resumption conditions (overall TAC, quota per segment, fishing zone, etc.) and the fishing stopping periods in the management unit of the octopus fishery are fixed by decisions .
In 2011-2012: Strengthening studies of the octopus fishery management plan. The new management plan provides for the annual definition of the global quota (TAC) after exploration campaigns carried out by the INRH and the allocation to individual quotas, seasonal closures and the fishing capacity management, artisanal fisheries organization and the monitoring and control of catches and market.
